PSV travels to Volendam on Sunday for a game with the current number seventeen of the Eredivisie. Peter Bosz 's team will be looking for another three-point win at the Kras Stadion, as they have yet to triumph on foreign soil in 2024.
Earlier this season, the A-selection already met 'The New Orange' at Philips Stadium. A 3-1 victory was recorded. In that league game Noa Lang, Guus Til and Malik Tillman were all on target. The last defeat against FC Volendam dates back to May 1994, but that is partly because the team from North Holland has played almost consistently in the First Division since 1998.
Unbeatable
PSV did not drop a single point in the last sixteen meetings with FC Volendam. There were three wins in the Cup and thirteen league wins. The winning streak started after the 1994-1995 season, as the points were shared twice in that year. A win by PSV will set a new club record, but in a negative sense. After all, a new win means a series of fourteen consecutive defeats against one team for FC Volendam.
Old nest
For Joey Veerman the away match against FC Volendam means a return to the old nest. He played in the youth of the club from North Holland and worked his way up to the A-selection via Jong FC Volendam. There he made 82 appearances, scored twelve goals and assisted twelve goals. After fourteen years he left for sc Heerenveen and via Friesland he ended up at PSV.
New destination
For Head Coach Peter Bosz, it will be his first visit to FC Volendam's home ground. He has won at least one match in all the stadiums he has visited in an Eredivisie context. At the moment, PSV has recorded an unbeaten run of 20 games in a row, which means the coach is chasing Fred Rutten's record. After all, he did not lose 25 consecutive games in the 2009-2010 season.
