This week it is time again for the TOTO KNVB Beker. PSV plays Excelsior Rotterdam on Tuesday night at home, which is quite special: it is in fact 85 years ago that the Kralingers came to Eindhoven in the cup.
The last time Excelsior visited for the cup tournament was in 1936. Then PSV won 6-0. A small unicum, because the other two cup matches with the Rotterdammers in the Philips Stadium were both lost. In away matches PSV has more success; the three duels at Woudestein were all won. There was also one encounter on neutral ground in the semi-finals. That happened in 1950, when PSV won 2-1.
In all competitions, PSV has not lost to the Kralingers since 1985. On May 27 of that year, it was 2-0 for the home team in Rotterdam. It has now been a while since the two teams faced each other. On April 2, 2024 was the last encounter. It was 2-0 for PSV in Rotterdam. Mauro Júnior and Johan Bakayoko scored the goals. The last time they met at the Philips Stadium was a little less than four months earlier. It became Luuk de Jongs match. With a hat trick, he decided the match in PSV's favor. A late goal against couldn't change that anymore.
TOTO KNVB Cup
PSV started this cup season with an eight-setter against Koninklijke HFC. Hirving Lozano, Ricardo Pepi (2), Guus Til, Ivan Perišić and two own goals ensured a monster score.
Excelsior Rotterdam has already completed two rounds. In the first round they beat VVV-Venlo 2-1 at home, the round after that FC Eindhoven 3-1. That was a match in Eindhoven, so the Rotterdammers know how it feels to win here.
Keuken Kampioen Divisie
Earlier this season Excelsior Rotterdam in fact also played against Young PSV. At De Herdgang it became 3-1 for the away team, thanks to goals by Noah Naujoks (2) and Seydou Fini. Jesper Uneken scored on behalf of the home side. The Kralingers are doing well in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. After 21 matches they occupy second place, just one point behind FC Volendam.
