PSV 1 continues its UEFA Champions League adventure on Tuesday against Spain's Sevilla FC. A familiar opponent for the red-whites: last year, PSV's European adventure stranded against the Spaniards.
The UEFA Champions League is back at Philips Stadium. Five years ago, in 2018, it last kicked off for the group stage of the prestigious tournament, against FC Barcelona. That game ended in a 2-1 defeat for PSV. The club ended up finishing fourth in its pool.
Revanch
PSV and Sevilla FC have drawn each other in a European context for the second time. Last season the teams also faced each other, in the first round of the knockout phase of the UEFA Europa League. On a visit to Andalusia, Sevilla FC proved too strong for PSV with 3-0. A week later, the return match took place at Philips Stadium. Despite goals from Luuk de Jong and Fábio Silva, the final 2-0 win over two games was too little to advance.
First round of play
PSV opened its Champions League season with a match in London, against Arsenal FC. This one was lost 4-0, so the club currently holds the fourth spot in the pool. Sevilla FC took on PSV's third opponent, French RC Lens. At home, both teams drew 1-1. Lucas Ocampos, former Ajax player, signed for the only Spanish-made goal.

Win series
If PSV wins at Sevilla FC, it will be their sixth consecutive home victory in a European main tournament. The last time that happened was in a series of seven from July 2009 to August 2010, in both qualifying and the UEFA Europa League tournament.
Main prize in Eindhoven
Sevilla FC won its very first European trophy in Eindhoven. In the 2005-2006 UEFA Europa League season, together with England's Middlesbrough, they decided who could call themselves cup winners. The match ended with a 4-0 score on the scoreboard, in favor of 'Los Nervionenses'. Current captain Jesús Navas was also on the squad at the time.
Luuk de Jong
The former Sevilla FC player played a major role in the final won in the 2019-2020 season. He managed to find the net twice against Italy's Internazionale (3-2).
Luuk is the first player in club history to find the net in four consecutive European home games in the shirt of PSV. He was able to cheer against Arsenal FC, Sevilla FC, SK Sturm Graz and Glasgow Rangers.
