After the euphoric midweek victory in the UEFA Champions League, PSV is preparing for another important away game. On Sunday, the selection travels to Rotterdam for the game with Feyenoord. In De Kuip, PSV can crown themselves winter champions.
This is not the first meeting between the two teams this season. In early August, national champions Feyenoord and cup winners PSV battled for the Johan Cruijff Schaal. Head coach Peter Bosz 's official debut was crowned with a 1-0 victory, with Noa Lang accounting for the only goal. If PSV wins again Sunday, they will be winter champions.
Last season
PSV will take on the port city club for the 135th time in the Eredivisie (W46-G34-V54). Last Eredivisie season, the main force managed to win 4-3 at home thanks to a decisive header goal from Armando Obispo. At De Kuip, PSV were ahead for most of the match, but Feyenoord managed to turn a 0-2 deficit into a draw.
On Steam
Including last season, PSV 1 has won each of its last 14 Eredivisie games. The longest winning streak in the league since an equally long run by Ajax in the period February-May 2012. It has happened five times before that a club has won at least 15 consecutive duels. The last time was in 1995.
List leaders
PSV and Feyenoord take the crown when it comes to attacking statistics in the Eredivisie. Together, both clubs' strikers are good for 26 goals: Luuk de Jong 's tally stands at ten and Feyenoord's Santiago Giménez has already scored 16. In addition, the clubs have eye-catching attackers in the selection: PSV'ers Joey Veerman and Johan Bakayoko share first place with Feyenoord midfielder Calvin Stengs (seven), followed by Quinten Timber (six).
Goal-oriented & defensive
Head Coach Peter Bosz 's formation won all of its 13 games this season by a goal differential of at least two. The longest run ever. The club also set a new league record by scoring at least three goals in 12 consecutive games. This season, PSV only failed to do so in its opening game against FC Utrecht (2-0).
Defensively, too, PSV leaves little to be desired. Goalkeeper Walter Benítez has kept his goal clean in each of his last five away games in the Eredivisie. Should the Argentine manage to do so again Sunday, PSV will match the club record of six consecutive clean sheets in away games in the league. This number was already achieved once in September-December in 2004. Then Heurelho Gomes was under the crossbar.
