Round eleven of the Eredivisie is upon us and for PSV that means an away game with Heracles Almelo. The main squad can match a club record in a special encounter for Head Coach Peter Bosz.
PSV maintains a good series against promoted Heracles Almelo.Only twice in its club history was an Eredivisie match lost, seven times both clubs shared the points and 34 times the victory went to PSV. Of the two losses, one took place at Philips Stadion, quite some time ago: on November 1, 1964, Gerrit Pesman shot the Heracles to a 1-0 victory in Eindhoven.
PSV won nine of its last 10 Eredivisie matches against the Overijssel club. The exception was a 1-1 draw in Almelo in the 2020-2021 season. Philipp Max then signed for PSV's only goal.
Double win
The last duel dates back to the 2021-2022 season. PSV, then under the management of Roger Schmidt, won both the home and away duels against Heracles Almelo. At home, PSV beat the Heracles 3-1, with Joey Veerman scoring, as did Eran Zahavi and Cody Gakpo. Visiting in Overijssel, it was 2-0 thanks to goals by Noni Madueke and Bruma.
Goal-rich
PSV is on a roll this season. After the big win over Ajax in the previous round (5-2), head coach Peter Bosz 's formation has found the net 35 times in ten games this season. Because PSV managed to score at least three goals in the last nine Eredivisie games, it can match a club record against Heracles Almelo. Only in the period May-September 1987 did the club do this in ten consecutive games. In the period April-August 2004, PSV also set a streak of nine games.
Peter Bosz
For Head Coach Peter Bosz, Erve Asito, Heracles Almelo's home stadium, is not unfamiliar territory. The coach was at the helm of the club in the periods 2004-2006 and 2010-2013. At his previous clubs he was assisted by John Lammers, the current Heracles Almelo coach. He was Bosz's assistant coach at both AGOVV (2001-2002) and De Graafschap (2002-2003). In addition, in their playing careers they played together for RKC Waalwijk (1985-1986) and French side Toulon (1988-1990).
Old acquaintances
For Mauro Júnior, the weekend match is also one of old acquaintances. PSV rented the Brazilian during the 2019-2020 season to current number eight of the Eredivisie, for whom he played 26 matches. Two former PSV players play in Heracles Almelo's selection. Nikolai Laursen joined the at club in 2015, where he played fifty matches for Young PSV until 2019. In those, he scored eleven times.
Another familiar face is Jetro Willems. The 22-time international accounted for 192 official matches in PSV's red and white from 2011 to 2017. Willems became champion twice with PSV and also won the Johan Cruijff Schaal twice and the TOTO KNVB Beker once.
