The previous edition of Ajax - PSV dates back to November 6, 2022. Then PSV returned home with the full spoils (1-2). Luuk de Jong (23') and Érick Gutiérrez (50') scored on behalf of PSV and Lorenzo Lucca (83') accounted for the only Ajax goal. Of the 22 players who started the kickoff, 12 have since been transferred.
Home game
Earlier this season, PSV triumphed 5-2 at Philips Stadium. Hirving Lozano (3x), Luuk de Jong and Ismael Saibari were goalscorers in that game. For our Head Coach, the reunion means a return to the old nest, as Peter Bosz was the head coach in Amsterdam during the 2016-2017 season. He won 22 of his last 23 duels in the Dutch capital and the exception was a draw against PSV.
History
PSV is the only team in the Netherlands with a positive balance in Eredivisie terms against Saturday night's opponent (56W-27G-52V). With a result in the Johan Cruijff ArenA, a club record will be improved, as then an unbeaten run of 36 duels will be a fact. The current record (35), set in seasons 1977-1978, 1985-1986 and 2000-2001, was equaled in the home game against Almere City FC. The last league defeat dates back to January 24, 2023, when they lost 1-0 on a visit to FC Emmen.
Seasons
For the third time this century, a team managed to remain unbeaten for at least nineteen league games. PSV did so in season 2009-2010 and FC Twente also achieved that in the same season. The last six duels between Ajax and PSV were won. A new three-peat will mark the longest ever winning streak against Ajax.
Impact
In the home game, Hirving signed for three goals and he can become the first player with at least four goals in one season against Ajax since Ruud van Nistelrooij. In fact, he scored six goals against the Amsterdammers in season 1999-2000.
Goals
Only two Dutch teams have scored more goals against Ajax in one season than PSV currently has, namely Feyenoord (6) and FC Utrecht (8).
