FC Volendam is still waiting for its first win this Eredivisie season (W0-G1-V4). The North Dutchmen returned to the Eredivisie last season after an absence of thirteen years. PSV took a big hit against the promoted side that year: it became 7-1. Xavi Simons needed only twenty seconds to open the scoring. On the goal-rich afternoon, Cody Gakpo also excelled with a hat trick. A goal by Johan Bakayoko, an own goal by FC Volendam and a goal by Henk Veerman determined the final score.
Clean sheets
PSV goalkeeper Walter Benítez only conceded one goal in the first six league games this season. If PSV keeps its goal clean on Saturday, the club will match the 2007-2008 season. Resounding victory
In 1998, PSV experienced a memorable evening against the team from the fishing village. The club scored an impressive 10-0 victory over FC Volendam. This win is still listed as one of PSV's greatest triumphs in the Eredivisie, alongside the 10-0 victory over Go Ahead Eagles in 1973 and the 10-0 triumph over Feyenoord in 2010.
Luuk tops the list
His two goals against Go Ahead Eagles made Luuk de Jong top scorer of the century in the Eredivisie. He knocked Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (154 goals) off the throne. Luuk's tally now stands at 155 goals in 278 games. He needs three more goals to match former striker Wim Kieft (158) in 11th place of all time.
Youth spurs earned
Joey Veerman, born and raised in Volendam, took his first steps in professional football with "The other orange," between 2016 and 2019. After a period at sc Heerenveen, he signed a contract in Eindhoven in January 2022. Joey has since become an important link in midfield.
