Mauro Júnior played his 100th match in professional football last Saturday against Vitesse. The Brazilian has been with the club for a long time and has become a true PSV player. The midfielder can regularly be seen on the pitch proving his talents.
Debut
Mauro Júnior followed several training courses at PSV from the summer of 2013. The midfielder himself played in the youth of Desportivo Brazil, where he debuted to the first team in 2017. In June that year, he signed a contract with PSV. He was just eighteen years old at the time. He joined Young PSV where he made his debut two months after signing his contract. Less than a month later, he scored his first goal for the team. In total, Mauro played 30 matches for Young PSV. He scored 7 goals.
Acquisition
In October 2017, Mauro made his debut with PSV 1. He filled in for Steven Bergwijn in the 46th minute. Mauro quickly proved that he was a real asset. Less than half an hour later, he scored his first goal. Three months later, he was officially given his first place in the first team. This was under then Head Coach Phillip Cocu.
Champions League
Exactly one year after his debut for Young PSV, Mauro played his first match for the UEFA Champions League. He was substituted for Gastón Pereiro in the last 10 minutes. The team won the preliminary round game 2-3 against Belarusian team FK BATE Borisov.
Heracles Almelo
In the 2019-2020 season, Mauro was rented out to Heracles Almelo. He was given a starting place and played 29 games at that club. He scored 6 goals that season. One year later, the midfielder was brought back to PSV. Last season 2020-2021, Mauro played 28 games for PSV in which he scored a total of three goals. Last Saturday, the Brazilian played his 100th Eredivisie game.
