  1. Match report

After last week's fine victory against Heerenveen in glorious weather, today is the chance to stay on top. For that we need to win the game against fellow topper AZ. So we know what to do at the always windy sports park in Alkmaar. We start with concentration and play with quick attacks over the wings to conquer AZ. A nicely executed attack over the left with a cross from Thomas Horsten is finished off very controlled by Elvio van Overbeek. 0-1. We kept pressing and a good cross from Elvio enabled Jorrit Hendrix to score the 0-2 three minutes later. We go for it because AZ is clearly suffering from the wind that blows in our favor during the first half. But five minutes later, a small misunderstanding in our backline allows AZ to come back 1-2. We don't want to give up and roll up our sleeves again to increase the margin again. And that seems to be working, but then there is Hobie Verhulst (AZ's goalkeeper) who does not want to let us cheer just yet. We go into the break with the 1-2 score. After the break we play with the wind against us, but it is a little less than in the first half (what a quick prayer in the break can do) and we continue the good game from the first half. After an hour of play a great cross from Mohamed Rayhi was right on target and Ruben Bentancourt managed to shoot in the 1-3 in a very controlled manner. AZ wanted to put more pressure on us, but our fourth goal was more in the air than AZ's second. We managed to keep the score at a good level until the end of the game and when the referee blew the final whistle, the three points were back in the pocket. We can get back on the bus and the fourth spot is now firmly in our hands again, also because of the favorable other results today. Next Tuesday we play Groningen and then we can prepare for dessert in Düsseldorf.
    Good luck.
