  1. Match report

In Helmond on Saturday, PSV D1 had to face VVV/Helmond Sport D2 for the away match. At times just as wet as last week in The Hague, but less cold.

After the usual probing in the early stages, PSV slowly took control of the match. Although the game is a bit messy, opportunities are created. The first is for Dante Rigo, who shoots a free kick from 18 meters over. Dante is also involved in the next, real chance when he sends Matthias towards the goalkeeper. Matthias' shot is saved by the goalkeeper. After a shot by Dante, after an action by Lennerd Daneels, is blocked at the last moment, Matthias gets another chance. He is sent deep but only in front of the goalkeeper he hits his legs. While there are chances for PSV, VVV/Helmond Sport occasionally combines well. This does not create much danger. PSV continues and almost scores through a header by Joey Konings (corner Mink Peeters), a shot by Mats Grotenbreg that goes wide and two shots by Roel van Linschoten. After this quarter of an hour, PSV lost it for a while. Passes did not arrive and the home team started to believe in it. They become more and more dangerous towards the PSV goal. Yet it is PSV that takes the lead when Joey gets in front of his man at a corner by Mink and shoots in the 0-1. We are not far from the halftime signal and PSV thinks they will rest with a lead. VVV/Helmond Sport thinks otherwise. Not long after the opening goal, a nice long-distance shot makes it 1-1. The home team was not ready yet, because a mistake in the back of the net was beautifully completed on the stroke of half-time. It is 2-1 and PSV goes into the break behind.

After halftime, PSV started well. Claudio Braga's men seem determined not to lose a point today. Immediately after halftime we see Joey shoot into the side-netting after an Ertem Bölükbas cross. Not much later it is equal again. This time the pass, after a nice action, came from Mink and it was Ertem who finished effectively. After the 2-2, PSV started to play better. Passes arrived better and the game became faster. Dante almost put PSV ahead when he shot a cross from Ties van den Eijnde just over. A few minutes after this action, PSV goes to 2-3. Matthias is sent deep by Dante and only in front of the goalkeeper he finishes with a beautiful lob. Moments later he is close to his next goal when he outruns his opponent and shoots at the keeper's body. Mink also almost deals the final blow, but a sharp cross from Matthias comes just a foot short. Fifteen minutes before time, the decisive 2-4 is scored. It is Matthias who puts the game to bed with a beautiful marker, because from that moment on the hosts seem to throw in the towel. PSV is in complete control for the remainder of the match and runs out further to 2-5 when Giovanni Nicolaas puts a free kick in front of the goal and Matthias heads in backwards. His third and thus a pure hat-trick. PSV wins 2-5 and although it didn't look like it in the first half, in hindsight still a relatively easy victory.
