The report
On the last day of September, PSV O15 faced low-fly FC Twente in Hengelo. With one point from the three previous, tough matches, the Tukkers were in the lower regions. PSV, on the other hand, earned seven points from three matches and was the runner-up. Because frontrunner Feyenoord lost to local FC in Utrecht earlier this week, the Eindhoven team could become (shared) leaders with a win.
Under leaden conditions, heavy rain throughout the match and a poor (artificial turf) pitch, both teams tried to make the best of it. Playing good football under these conditions was impossible. It took some time before the first goal was scored: a long-distance shot by Twente in the eleventh minute was an easy target for goalkeeper Aron van Lare. After failing to score from two opportunities, PSV took the lead in the 24th minute. After good pressure the ball went to Milan van de Riet, who shot the ball with his left from outside the penalty area: 0-1. A minute later it was almost 0-2 when after a good and fluent attack the ball was shot just over by Mylian Jimenez. Just before halftime, PSV had another great chance after once again disrupting the Twente build-up early on. But unfortunately Martijn Zuijderwijk failed to score.
After the break, Martijn was again close to scoring his second Eindhoven goal, but this time his shot went just wide. In the 49th minute, the same player saw his shot get just shaded by the goalkeeper after which it went under the keeper, but was kicked away by a Twente defender well before the line. After a pinball attack the ball was once again worked out of the Twente goal mouth, and the home team failed to take a free kick on the edge of the penalty area, the well-directed referee called it quits. A hard-fought, but justified victory could be noted. Next week follows the away game at ADO Den Haag.
