PSV O17 wins cup clash at Feyenoord
PSV under 17 managed to qualify for the eighth final of the cup. It did so by disposing of, the league leaders, Feyenoord by edging the Rotterdammers 3-4 at home.
After 22 minutes, PSV managed to score the opening goal after a nice double combination between Dylan Hopman and Naïm Matoug, with Hopman tapping the ball in nicely. Yet PSV could not enjoy the lead for long. About five minutes later Feyenoord equalized through a smooth attack on the left. 1-1 was also the score at halftime.
Feyenoord came out of the dressing room a lot better than the Eindhoven side, which resulted in a 2-1 lead for the Rotterdammers. After a corner kick the ball went straight in at the far post. Only then did the Eindhoven machine start running again. In the 58th minute, Ilyas Bougafer provided the equalizer after a cross than D'Leanu Arts stuck in front of the goal. Barely two minutes later, PSV took the lead after a goal from Iggy Houben, after Milan van de Riet put the ball perfectly in front of him. That was not the end of the fun. In minute 66 the same Van de Riet made it 2-4 by simply tapping the ball in after a Fedde Leysen pass. There was little else going on until minute 83, when the referee whistled for a penalty kick after an alleged handball. But, not to worry, Aron van Lare showed how a goalkeeper should stop a penalty kick. Resolutely he turned the ball off the line, keeping the score 2-4. In minute 93 Feyenoord brought the tension back a bit by shooting in the 3-4 from the ball, but the Rotterdammers came no closer.
Thus PSV could take a deserved victory back to Eindhoven and the team has qualified for the eighth final. Saturday the competition awaits again, then PSV will play against AZ at the Herdgang, starting at 2 p.m.
