PSV sinks through the ice in Volendam
If there is a lower limit, PSV sank through it emphatically in Volendam last Saturday. Where the team in recent games always managed to compensate for a poor first half with a good second, the entire match on Saturday was far below par and PSV received a lesson in match mentality and inspiration from Volendam, which managed to win completely deservedly.
The only exciting thing that happened in Volendam's stadium on Saturday was that the trainer of the first team was fired just before the match started. As a result, the Volendammers were by no means offended, from minute one PSV was put under pressure, Volendam was dangerous especially in the transition and won almost all duels on the basis of effort and willpower. In the 18th minute, the team translated that into a deserved lead when a free kick from close range was headed in unopposed. After an early tactical change, PSV managed to come alongside in the 30th minute when Milan scored a penalty awarded for a handball, 1-1. Although substitute Jasper almost scored the 1-2 just before halftime after the goalkeeper made a good save on Jenson's header from a free kick, it was Volendam that went into the locker room with a lead by taking maximum advantage of Eindhoven's loss of ball in injury time of the first half to make it 2-1.
A very bad moment for PSV that was already totally out of the game, and Volendam dealt another blow to the O16 by making it 3-1 within minutes of the second half kickoff, again from a free kick that was headed in from close range. For a moment PSV seemed to get back in the game when Milan finished in the 69th minute after a good individual action by Ilyas, but the referee disallowed the goal note on the instructions of the Volendam linesman due to offside, unjustly as the left striker's effort was blocked by a Volendam defender and then got to the striker. A few minutes later, Volendam decided the game for good with a goal that typified the match picture par excellence. After a quick switch, 2 Volendam players appeared completely free in front of goalkeeper Jules, who was easily tapped out and could only take the ball out of the net. In injury time Jenson headed in the 4-2 from a corner by Mo.
Although the coach still warned of the danger of this in the discussion, PSV could not carry the wealth of victory in the last match against FC Utrecht. Defeated on all fronts by the ailing Volendam, which had lost the last four games in a row. Next Saturday, O16 plays at 11:30 a.m. at home against AZ.
