If we were doing scoreboard journalism we would say now: the train has left. But the train is not here yet. After Wednesday's fine game against Sporting and next Wednesday's match in Scotland against Celtic, today was a bus trip to Alkmaar to fight local AZ. And this is not an easy prey that we remember from our own tournament in August. Twice 1 - 0, once AZ and once for PSV. We have been warned. The start is fierce from both sides but there are no real big chances yet. After losing possession of the ball in our midfield, the first big chance for AZ is a fact. Furthermore, the dangerous situations in front of our goal are mainly at corners. Still, a small moment of inattention just before half time causes AZ to get a big chance, but Riechedly manages to stop the ball before the line in his own inimitable way and to defend. So we go into the break with the familiar glasses 0 - 0.
After halftime we want to continue and force AZ to their knees. And in the 50th minute there is a free kick from AZ and the ball is put into the sixteen and the number 7 runs away from his opponent and scores the 1 - 0. Against all odds, we are still behind. As a trainer something to get mad about. But fortunately not our trainer. We need about 10 minutes and then we get a free kick. Clint hits the bar hard and the rebounding ball is shot by Rai but unfortunately against the goalkeeper. (This goalkeeper is playing a great game, but also our goalkeeper Jesse is doing a very good job). We increase the pressure and a little later Moussa passes a good cross but Albian comes a little short to work the ball into the goal.We get more chances. A good chance from Rayhi is not really played well. After 77 minutes a cross from the right comes from Moussa and Mo takes the ball and bangs the liberating equalizer against the ropes. But we want more. Rai hits the post and the clock is approaching 90 minutes. The scoreboard has already stopped time and indicates 90 when Rai intercepts a ball and passes to Moussa who is still in the sixteen and then our hearts begin to beat faster. The net bulges. 1 - 2.
Now to play out the time. Mo gets another chance but the goalkeeper saves again. Then the whistle blows. The win is ours, we are back at the top of the standings. After another good game we take three points.
Now off to Glasgow to continue this trend and show that we belong in the NextGen.
Up early on Wednesday and good luck in Scotland. See you Wednesday.
