In a mediocre match, PSV was unable to trouble Ajax. Neither PSV nor Ajax created many chances. In the end, PSV lost the match 2-0.

Ajax got off to a good start and within one minute the visiting club managed to score. With a nice through ball, an Ajax player got free in front of the PSV goalie and shot the 0-1. Ajax had a slight advantage in the first fifteen minutes but created few opportunities. PSV was sloppy and often made the wrong choices. After fifteen minutes Iggy Houben scored for PSV but this goal was disallowed due to offside. PSV got better in the match for a short period but did not manage to convert this superiority into chances. Ajax had two opportunities in the ^20th and ^21st minutes. In the ^20th minute a shot went just over and one minute later a shot hit the post. In the last five minutes of the first half, PSV pushed one more time and this immediately produced the biggest chance in that first half. Shi-jon Martina won the duel and played Jesper Uneken. Jesper laid the ball wide to Iggy Houben but his shot was caught by the Ajax goalie.

In the second half, neither team created any chances in the first fifteen minutes. After Ajax failed to capitalize on a chance in the ^51st minute, Ajax found the net one minute later. Again an Ajax player got free in front of the PSV goalie with a through ball and again he made no mistake, 0-2. Five minutes later PSV was close to a goal. A free kick by Sven Simons was headed against the post by Iggy Houben. In the remaining part of the match neither team managed to create any more danger so the visitors could take home the points.
