Despite a weak first half, PSV went into halftime with a 2-1 lead. In the second half, PSV recovered and the game was considerably better. In the end, the match ended with a big 9-2 victory.
De Graafschap started the match brightly and PSV had no answer. Nevertheless, in the sixth minute the first chance of the match was for PSV and this gave PSV a corner. The corner was taken by Milan Govaers and shot hard by Jesper Uneken 1-0. Even after this goal, the match picture did not change. The visitors were brighter and created some opportunities that were not exploited, PSV played sloppy and unconcentrated. Against the odds, PSV took a 2-0 lead in the 18th minute. Iggy Houben crossed the ball and Jesper Uneken tapped in the 2-0. This large lead just did not bring peace to PSV's play. PSV created a few more opportunities but no more goals were scored by the home club. Four minutes before time, De Graafschap did something back. Five minutes after this goal De Graafschap equalized, 3-2, but two minutes later the difference was already two goals again. Sven Simons gave a nice through ball to Ruben van Bommel. After a long sprint Ruben tapped the ball into the far corner, 4-2. In the 49th minute it became 5-2. A shot by Livano Comenencia was initially blocked. Ruben van Bommel tapped the ball wide and Iggy Houben tapped in. The game was now played and PSV played freely. In the 50th minute, Jaivy Lourens picked up the ball near the center line.
