PSV failed to finish the league with a victory. Whereas the away game against Ajax last week was won 0-3, the Amsterdammers drew the longest on Sunday morning at the Herdgang.
As happened more often in the league this season, the b2 shortchanged themselves. In the 1st half, the team of trainers Twan Scheepers and Colin Williamson created a number of 100% scoring chances and could have already decided the game. Only 2 of them ended up on the scoreboard, although both were of great beauty. 17th minute Philippe Rommens suddenly cashed in on a free kick on the edge of the penalty area with a tightly placed kick into the bottom right corner. 10 min before halftime, Steven Bergwijn prepared the score to 2-0 when he curled the ball beautifully over the Amsterdam goalkeeper with his left into the left cross on the right side of the penalty area. Although Ajax failed to become dangerous in front of goal often, they scored the tying goal shortly before halftime, poor defensive work by PSV.
The failure to take advantage of the many chances in the good 1st half paid off in this match, as PSV has done more often this season. Ajax got into the game better, and PSV found it even harder to keep control and win when midfielder Sam Lammers was shown his 2nd yellow card in the 10th minute after halftime and had to leave the field with a red card. Ajax had just before headed in the equalizer from a cross, and finally took advantage of the man more situation. In the 68th min, the Amsterdammers decided the match in their favor after all. Goalkeeper Yanick van Osch kept PSV in the game by stopping the penalty awarded to Ajax 2 minutes later. PSV was unable to force the equalizer in the final minutes.
