PSV played FC Twente on Saturday for the 4th time this season due to the changed league format. Like the previous encounters, this match also ended in a victory for PSV.
A resounding victory moreover, the first half was perhaps PSV's best of the season. With fine positional play, good combinations, flowing attacks and beautiful goals, PSV played FC Twente off the mat in the first half. In the 14th minute, Cody opened the scoring from the edge of the penalty area with a placed shot into the right corner. Just 2 minutes later Robin doubled the score after a good action by Justin who came through well on the right flank and put the ball in front of Robin at the 2nd post for tapping in. Bobby scored the 3rd goal of the afternoon 10 minutes before the halftime whistle after an excellent combination with Joel, who came through on the left side and sent the deep Bobby towards the goalkeeper with a beautiful, precisely timed cross. After dodging a tackle, the left striker had enough of a small hole in the left corner to give the Twente goalkeeper the slip and make it 3-0.
PSV could not dominate the second half as much as in the first, perhaps due to the comfortable half-time score that could just as well have been double that. Against a number of opportunities and a goal just after halftime for FC Twente, there was only 1 big chance for Joel, who saw a header cleared off the line by a Twente defender. Nevertheless, Sekouh eventually made it 4-1 after an individual action in which he entered from the right and shot the ball into the short corner with his left from 18 meters. Although the score could and should have been much higher, an excellent victory for PSV, which will face FC Utrecht on April 11 after the upcoming Easter weekend.
