  1. Match report

Despite last week's weather forecast, the match against Roda JC can still go ahead. Roda also has two artificial turf fields, and when we get there, the fields have a white appearance. But from the warm-up it is already clear that the field is playable. Not an easy match today, as Roda JC suffered only their second defeat of the season last week and are still unbeaten at home. The match in Eindhoven, Roda won 3-0 in the first series. At 10 a.m. the match can begin and Roda immediately puts PSV under pressure. Again today it appears that the opponent is physically a lot stronger than most PSV players so again it is important to choose position well and to find the free man so that the duels can be avoided. PSV cannot dominate in the early stages like they did last week. The opponent is immediately on the ball, making it difficult for PSV to reach their forwards. Roda is particularly threatening through their striker and left winger, but each other's backs are well covered and when it gets dangerous, Kyan is still there, coming out of his goal a couple of times to prevent a goal. PSV are able to counter this with a few pinpricks, but the right pass or action is lacking, but this shows that even for Roda, despite their field superiority, it remains to be careful. At first a PSV attack from the left side is fended off, but when Greg rushes on he gets possession of the ball and enters the 16-meter area and when everyone thinks he is going to pass, he shoots from a difficult angle at goal and via the goalkeeper it goes over the goal line. A 1-0 lead against the odds, but nobody cares. It has been different before. Roda was threatening and did not get 100% chances. Kyan had to intervene once more so that we could go into the break with 1-0. In the second half Roda went in search of the equalizer, and PSV, supported by their lead, could keep Roda a lot further away from goal without really being dangerous, but with a certain threat of a counter. Roda does try but their attackers are actually outplayed every time by the PSV defenders, along with a hard-working midfield and forwards who defend well, so Edson hardly has to step up. PSV continues to lurk on the counter and so Greg is sent on an adventure on the right. Greg beats his opponent at speed, gets around another player and puts it with his left leg into the long corner out of reach of the goalkeeper. Greg always celebrates his hits in his own way, where he can only be embraced by his teammates on his own half. Consequently, the match seems decided. Greg, moments later, refuses to put the game on lock for good, as his rushing allows him to clear the goalkeeper of the ball. He has an empty field of 30 meters and an empty goal in front of him, but decides to shoot it wide. This also would have been too much of a good thing. The win is no longer in danger for the remaining time, making the second consecutive league victory a reality. Including the friendly against Lierse, it's three wins in a row without a single goal. Next week VVV. These victories taste like more.
