Nice last practice match for PSV F1
Today was the last match of the 2008-2009 season. On visit came the German FC Köln.
Some feared this undoubtedly physical opponent, knowing that the long and hard season had already taken its toll on many PSV players.
Fortunately for all the fans, Bastiaan had managed to give his men one more good charge. The physical part of the match came unexpectedly even from the PSV side.
This created a very nice game of football where PSV took on the good combination play of Köln via technical feats.
The game reached halftime with a 0-0 score; partly due to a strong performance by goalkeeper Kyan.
In the second half, the game really got going. PSV seemed to have built up a safe 2-0 lead through Joop and Gregory. But Köln would not be a German team if the belief in a good outcome did not remain ever-present. Ball loss in the rearguard meant the 2-1 "anschluss tor".
Coach Bastiaan had organized the most emotional moment just fine. He allowed goalkeeper Merijn a few minutes before time a real audience change. Merijn visibly enjoyed the many pats on the back, hugs and high-fives. All players and the entire technical staff rewarded him for 2 fine PSV seasons.
Unfortunately the concentration disappeared and Köln took advantage of this. In the last 2 minutes they managed to score twice, resulting in a 2-3 final score.
All in all a nice training game and the end of a successful season.
With a championship in our pocket and a second championship missed on goal difference, and with wins in two strong tournaments, the result was good.
But most importantly, a close friend team has been created (on and off the field) of which players, coaches and parents of PSV can really be proud!
Thank you all and good luck in the new season. And now enjoy the well-deserved vacation.
