PSV took the lead in the second minute of the match. Initially a shot by Milan van de Riet was turned away by the Feyenoord goalkeeper, but in the rebound Joep van den Berk shot the 1-0. It was an open game from the start with both teams getting chances. In the eighth minute the visitors were close to an equalizer. A Feyenoord free kick changed direction but Kevin Gadellaa parried the effort. One minute later, PSV managed to score again. Dyon Dorenbosch played the ball to Joep van den Berk and his cross was tapped in by Milan van de Riet, 2-0. Directly after this goal Feyenoord scored. A Feyenoord player ran into the penalty area from the right side and shot the ball into the far corner, 2-1. One minute later PSV brought the margin back to two goals. A nice cross from Mohamed Nassoh put Dyon Dorenbosch in scoring position. His shot was turned away by the Feyenoord goalie but Milan van de Riet fired in the rebound to make it 3-1. The game was 12 minutes in and four goals had already been scored. Both teams continued to look for a goal and had several opportunities to score. However, it was Feyenoord that scored the tying goal in the 26th. A through ball through the PSV defense put a Feyenoord player in front of the goalkeeper. He shot the ball into the far corner, 3-2. This was also the score at halftime.

Also in the beginning of the second half, both teams created several opportunities. PSV made the wrong choice several times at the last moment, preventing them from scoring. Feyenoord were either out of their sights or Jules Janssen was in the way. In the 57th minute PSV did manage to capitalize on the opportunity. Cel Teunen intercepted the ball and crossed the midfield. He then played the ball to Milan van de Riet who lobbed it over the Feyenoord goalkeeper, 4-2. With that, the match was played. Partly due to the heat, both teams had lost their energy. PSV managed to score five minutes before time. Mohamed Nassoh got the ball in midfield. He dribbled into the penalty area and shot the ball in. With this he put the final score of 5-2 on the scoreboard. With this big win, PSV closed the league of the 2016-2017 season.
