With 9 points from 3 games, 20 goals for and 0 against, PSV D2 left Saturday morning for Geldrop to defend its leading position against Geldrop/AEK D1 with former PSV players Dennis van den Eijnden and Danny van Houts in the ranks. Without the injured Mink Peeters and without Dante Rigo and Zohair Labyad who reinforced the D1, but with Steven Bosma from the D3, PSV started the match in very pleasant weather conditions.
The beginning of the match is not anything to write home about. PSV plays sloppy and the passing is not accurate so no chances are created in the early stages. Geldrop did not create as many chances. After 10 minutes the first chance. Matthias Verreth passes to Giovanni Nicolaas who passes to Mats Grotenbreg. Mats' effort disappears just wide of the goal. The next opportunity was for Joey Konings who headed a corner from Ties van den Eijnde, but the ball disappeared just over the goal. Geldrop is also dangerous from a corner; the effort is headed away from the goal line by Ties. Within 20 seconds PSV got to the Geldrop goal via Joey and Mats, who headed for the goalkeeper, but slid the ball wide. PSV's play improved at times, although it was still difficult to play against Geldrop's physical play. After 20 minutes it is finally close. Matthias played the ball deep to Joey, the going goalkeeper seemed to be able to shoot the ball away, but Joey kept going and blocked the ball, which rolled into the goal: 0-1. Until halftime there are then two more opportunities to extend the lead when a dangerous effort by Matthias after a corner from Ties is saved by the goalkeeper and when Joey waits too long to shoot after having two opponents well cut out. So with a meager 0-1 lead we go into halftime.
Shortly after halftime, the second PSV goal is disallowed: Joey scores from a corner by Twan Demin, but apparently a foul was committed in the penalty area. Apart from this disallowed goal, as in the beginning of the first half, there is not much to note in the first period after halftime. PSV is stronger but does not know how to create chances. Geldrop is mainly holding back. Gradually in the second half, however, good football is played again and chances are created. The first one comes when Ertem Bölükbas catches a kick from the goalkeeper, plays to Matthias and Matthias lobs just wide. Ertem also had another chance. Matthias' effort is now stopped with his foot by the goalkeeper. The next two opportunities are for Mats, who first sees the goalkeeper save and then waits too long to strike after a good cross from Steven Bosma. Still there is a narrow 0-1 lead on the scoreboard. That lead seemed to be extended when Ertem took a shot in the box after a nice one-two with Gio, but again the goalkeeper prevented a second goal. Much to the relief of the PSV players and their supporters, the second goal did fall when a beautiful rush by Roel van Linschoten was stopped illegally and Matthias put himself behind the free kick. With a beautiful curl into the top corner, our Belgian striker scores the liberating 0-2. The final chord came from Mats who finally got his goal. Well set free by Matthias, he rounded the goalkeeper and slid the ball into the empty goal for the 0-3 final score. Not the best game of PSV, but a solid victory over Geldrop that made PSV quite difficult on physical strength, but could not hold on for the last quarter of an hour. With the full win in 4 games, 23 for and 0 against, PSV D2 will play next week at home against number two Baronie D1.
