This Saturday morning the frontrunner Fortuna Sittard comes to visit. The two previous confrontations were decided in favor of the men from Sittard, with the last game ending in a minimal defeat of 2-1, in a game in which PSV had deserved more. However, statistics say nothing in this league. Often the form of the day determines who wins. For our boys it was important to put last week's defeat against MVV right. Statistics say nothing; MVV loses today 3-0 to Roda JC, a team we already won twice against. Fortuna is also in the corner of the pack this last week given the defeats against MVV and VVV. Their lead has shrunk to 4 points. After a bit of testing in the opening stages, PSV started to combine well and pass the ball well. Fortuna is a team that, given its average length, is mainly physical. PSV finds the free man well in this phase and, unlike last week, makes good use of the sides where there is most space. The first chance is for PSV. From the left side they combine well and Greg is released on the right but his shot is too hasty and goes wide. Fortuna is not really threatening yet, but they have to watch out for their left winger who is quite fast, but Tijn has the right feet. PSV continues to play well and a goal is inevitable. An attack is turned away, but Benji can pick up the ball on the edge of the 16th and shoots the ball over the goalkeeper. PSV wants more and goes in search of more. Behind, it remains watchful because a slip could be fatal. There are a few more opportunities for PSV before halfway through the second half our men take a 2-0 lead, which is not undeserved. Fortuna now has to come and forces PSV further back. The game is now going back and forth. After PSV lost the ball around the halfway line, Fortuna could quickly switch over and send a Fortunee who was offside into the depths. A Fortuna player takes advantage of this chance. Fortuna is now looking for the equalizer and gets it 5 minutes before time. So the 2-0 lead is given away. It could have been worse, because Fortuna claimed a penalty kick when Kyan knocked down their captain. One gives it, the other doesn't, so let's just say as compensation for the offside on the 1st goal. PSV has the better of the game in the first half, but to go into the break with 2-2 is sour. PSV takes control in the second half, but defensively Fortuna has things in better shape now. Fortuna is forced back into their own half, but can keep PSV out of the 16-meter area. Against the odds, Fortuna takes the lead when a Fortunese comes in front of Edson and slides the ball inside. PSV remains mostly in Fortuna's half and now there are chances again. Greg works a cross across the goal. Sem gets the ball in front of his wrong leg twice on the edge of the 16th, so the effort is not hard enough. Yet the equalizer comes. From behind, a Fortuna attack is well intercepted and Koen is able to pick up the ball and finds Davy who slips past two Fortunese and places the ball in the ropes. So the balance is restored with 5 minutes left on the clock. Both sides seem to reconcile themselves to a draw. A minute before time, Fortuna gets a free kick about 30 meters from the goal. All of Fortuna's long men (and there are some) with them forward. PSV can beat the attack and immediately goes on the counterattack and sends Benji away from the halfway line. This one is faster than the Fortuna defender and can go to the Fortuna goal with the defender at his back. Will it be a victory after all ..... Unfortunately the goalkeeper gets his foot to his effort, making the final score 3-3, in a game where PSV had the most claim to victory.
