In the beginning of the match, PSV had more ball possession, but MVV put pressure on the ball early on.
PSV had difficulty finding the free man and did not really get into the game.
After fifteen minutes of play it looked like PSV was going to take the lead, the ball was in the net, but the referee had already whistled for a free kick for PSV. After this, PSV continued to attack but MVV's goalkeeper saved sublimely a couple of times.
Moments later, after a good action by Zakaria Bakkali, Stijn Lamers shot the ball into the net.
PSV was in a good phase and even scored the 0 - 2 by Zakaria just before halftime.
The second half had only just started when MVV's striker Cen Unal punished inattention in the PSV defense.
PSV struggled after this, partly because a number of players lacked sharpness.
This helped MVV get back into the game and it was not even undeserved that they scored the equalizer through Sven Weerts 2 - 2.
After this PSV recovered and went on the attack, it became a blood-curdling final phase.
Because the game was stopped repeatedly, the referee had already indicated that there would be a few more minutes.
The injury time was almost up until Junior Lima dos Santos was held up in the 16 meters, the referee did not hesitate and put the ball on the spot.
Junior himself coolly took the penalty and the score was 2 - 3. Shortly after, the referee whistled for the end of the match.
All in all a happy victory for PSV against a strong MVV that actually deserved more.
