Struggling under 13 books win over Ajax
After two instructive tournaments, the first cup match for PSV O13 was scheduled for Saturday. The draw had paired PSV with Ajax, which made it an exciting match. At the Herdgang it was an exciting match, which eventually resulted in a 2-1 victory for the Eindhoven players.
PSV started the match hesitantly and this resulted in a quick 0-1 deficit. Ajax's striker outsmarted the defense and slid the ball under the PSV goalkeeper. In the remainder of the first half, the Amsterdammers continued to dominate without creating any significant chances. Because PSV did not get any opportunities either, both teams went to the dressing rooms with a score of 0-1.
In the second half, the match picture tilted. PSV got more of a grip and that soon resulted in a great chance for Gino Verhulst. He cut clear and placed the ball beyond the reach of the goalkeeper, but the post prevented a goal. This goal was scored five minutes later by Raf van de Riet. After a foul Raf was allowed to touch down from just under 35 meters and to the surprise of everyone he shot the ball directly towards goal. The Ajax goalkeeper had no answer to this and so the signs were balanced again. After the equalizer PSV kept fighting for more and this eventually resulted in a second Eindhoven goal. Eus Waayers received the ball through the center, turned away from his opponent and gave a good cross to Robin van Duiven. Robin remained calm when facing the goalkeeper and calmly poked the ball in. With fifteen minutes left on the clock, the Eindhoven lead was there. Ajax went all-or-nothing, which resulted in two more chances. Both were missed. Because PSV held their own, the final score after the final whistle was 2-1.
Soon the draw for the second round will take place and PSV will know who it will be paired with. Next week, coach Hidde van Boven's team plays its first league match. PSV O13 will meet Rotterdam-based Spartaan '20 at Herdgang.
