PSV O14 takes points from Enschede
On paper it looked like it was going to be an easy afternoon for PSV, but after the match it turned out to be not so simple after all. And the biggest opponent, however, was not FC Twente, but PSV themselves. If they had kept playing football as they did for the first twenty minutes it could have been a big result, because in the early stages Twente was overpowered. I would say this is fodder for sports psychologists. Because after PSV easily took a 2-0 lead, the level went down very quickly. Ease wore into PSV's game. But it is still youth football, even if they can play football so well, they are still kids.
As already written, PSV started the match energetically. With five minutes on the clock, PSV had already missed four big chances in front of Twente's goal. But the football was very dominant, Twente was forced back far into their own half. Then in the eighth minute came the expected opening goal. Emir Bars passed a ball from midfield to Jason van Duiven. Jason came into possession of the ball quite far to the side, a cross was expected, but yes a striker always wants to score. So Jason does the unexpected and sticks the ball over the goalkeeper in the back of the goal against the side netting. Thus Jason clearly showed his qualities again and scored the 0-1 against his old club.
PSV continued to play good football, so the second goal falls in the thirteenth minute. Renzo Tytens sends Isaac Babadi away with a deep ball. Isaac has already seen in the corner of his eye that the Twente goalkeeper is far in front of his goal. From about 25 meters, Isaac manages to get the ball over everyone and into the goal. After the 0-2, laziness creeps into the PSV team. They think they can now steal the show with individual qualities, but football was really conceived as a team sport. Due to the inferior play, Twente even manages to cross the center line a few times to start creating danger in front of the PSV goal. Twente is not really dangerous yet, but PSV itself is asking for trouble.
In the second half, the same picture as at the end of the first half. Twente gets faith in a good result and increasingly leaves the defensive positions and starts putting higher pressure. It is that the individual qualities are just better than those of Twente and Twente does not really get dangerous. In the 47th minute it is Jason who goes running on a long ball from Bram Rovers, and he does not let this opportunity pass him by. One-on-one with the Twente goalkeeper, Jason is clearly the strongest and manages to score for the second time. Five minutes later it is Twente that manages to score. A cross falls twenty meters in front of the goal to a Twente player, because nobody steps out at PSV this player can take a devastating shot. PSV goalkeeper Tijn Smolenaars had no chance on this shot. After this goal the match bled to death. PSV effortlessly held on, but could not score anymore.
Again learning lessons from this match and on to the next one. No league program next week but a friendly against NAC Breda. After which two more league games await before the winter break.
