After last week's fine win away at ADO Den Haag, PSV's o15 team faced AFC from Amsterdam this weekend. The only non-BVO team in the Eredivisie for o15. The club that last year maintained itself relatively easily at the highest level by finishing in the middle of the table. A handsome result, it has to be said!!! Indeed, last season AFC o15 won 1-2 at De Herdgang. Would the guests cause a surprise again this year?
Because a number of players were not available due to circumstances (sick, injured, wrist injury, broken nose, transferred to o16), there was a different team than the previous 2 matches. Good that the o15 has a wide selection to cope with these kind of circumstances.
The beginning of the match was clearly for the guests. PSV seemed very nervous and stiff with tension. Why? Good question to which I too am guilty of answering. The fact is that AFC created the first goal threat when in the 2nd minute a wrong pass from behind was picked up and the Amsterdammers were immediately threatening as a result. Then AFC did not score. But a few minutes later the goal did come when a cross from the left flank of AFC crossed and was shot in at the 2nd post.
Thus PSV found itself for the third time in its 3rd league game at a 1-0 deficit. A question of sharpness? The home team was lucky to make up the deficit quickly. Captain Ian Maatsen sent Jeremy Antonisse deep on the right. His hard cross was tipped away at the far post just before the feet of striker Jur Clabbers, leaving PSV with only a corner. The corner was crossed by Ian but was cleared by AFC after which Ian shot the ball (offside or not?) via the back of an Amsterdam defender into the goal: 1-1.
After fifteen minutes of football, PSV finally started to find its feet. Without playing particularly great, it did get in some opportunities. Amin Doudah tried several times with shots from outside the 16 meters, but was unsuccessful. And also Jur Clabbers did not let the net bulge in the 21st minute when he turned up well at the first post and was able to put his foot against a cross from Jeremy. His effort, however, went narrowly past the wrong side of the post.
Moments later PSV showed a good attack in which first Joep Kluskens opened up well on the passing Amin. He kept a good overview and put the ball back to Fodé Fofana who saw his shot go just over.
Just before half time PSV took the lead. Right back Thomas Cox started the attack, played Jeremy to Jeremy who in turn managed to reach the free Joep in the penalty area. Joep's cross was then cleverly promoted to goal by Jur: 2-1.
After halftime PSV had things in better order. Where AFC threatened goalkeeper Peter Strijbosch in the first half, the Amsterdam team had no more chances in the second half. PSV did not get many chances either. They did manage to make it 3-1 in the 40th minute. Amin sent Fodé deep with a subtle pass. Coming from the left side, Fodé slid the ball with his right foot past the goalie.
Not until the 53rd minute was there anything to note again when once again Jeremy outsmarted his opponent. This time, the effort in front of goal was just not enough to make it 4-1.
Because substitute Heritier Deyonge also shot the ball over the goal after a corner instead of into the goal, the match ended in a 3-1 victory.
Over the entire match, a deserved victory. However, the field play shown was significantly less than in recent weeks. Enough work to do on the road to a series of three away games: Vitesse, Groningen (cup) and Heerenveen.
