PSV was on top for much of the match, but failed to convert this superiority into goals. Feyenoord took full advantage of PSV's mistakes to win the match 3-1.
The first minutes in the match were for Feyenoord, but soon PSV took the initiative. Nevertheless, the first chance of the match was for the visitors in the 13th minute. A shot, however, went just wide via a PSV defender. A minute later, PSV had the first chance of the match. Julian Kuijpers set up the attack and through Shi-jon Martina the ball went to Jesper Uneken, but his shot went just wide. In the early stages the match was still in balance, but soon PSV grew into the match and pulled the match towards itself. This resulted in the deserved lead in the 23rd minute. Chahid el Allachi played the ball to Iggy Houben, Iggy rounded two Feyenoord players and shot the ball into the far corner, 1-0. PSV determined the game and the wait was on for the 2-0. PSV took control of the game and were waiting for the second goal. PSV focused on the attack, which resulted in a poor defense in the 32nd minute when the visitors went on the attack. This allowed the visitors to equalize, 1-1. A minute later, PSV had an immediate opportunity to take the lead again, but the ball was cleared off the goal line. PSV tried to put things right before halftime, but on the stroke of half-time PSV got the lid on its nose. The Feyenoord central defender was able to play a player on the edge of the penalty area unchallenged. The Feyenoord player didn't flinch and, against the odds, signed for the 1-2.
In the second half, the pattern of play was no different than before halftime. An attacking PSV pushed the visitors far back on their own half. The visitors could only become dangerous through sporadic breakdowns. However, PSV failed to convert the many chances into goals. PSV was always just too late, the last pass was impure or the Feyenoord goalkeeper turned away the effort. In the last 10 minutes of the match, PSV went all out to try and force an equalizer. PSV did create a few more chances, but the home team was unable to score. The visitors took advantage of the space PSV gave away at the back and scored the 1-3 far into injury time. As a result, PSV remained without points in this match as well.
