The report
Despite the fact that the KNVB had already cancelled many matches, the league match between PSV O13 and Spartaan 20 went ahead as usual. The match was played under a lovely sun. The audience in attendance got to see two completely different halves. That the Rotterdammers could eventually leave with the 3 points was entirely thanks to PSV themselves. But that did not diminish the guests' joy after the 1-2 victory.
At the start of the match it was actually immediately clear where the problem for PSV today might lie. Physically, PSV would not be able to trounce Spartan, each player was at least 15 cm taller than the PSV players. But with the instruction to stay out of the duels and play as much football as possible, PSV started the match well. One did not let Spartan play their beloved long ball, putting pressure immediately. Upon conquering the ball, PSV also played good forward football. But unfortunately the chances in front of goal went just past or over the goal. In the 24th minute, PSV got the deserved lead. After an attack that started at PSV goalkeeper Harm Sigmans, the ball went well through several drives to the other goal. The ball ended up at Renzo Tytens, who managed to pass the ball well, after which the O12 player Eus Waayers headed the ball in backwards perfectly. With this 1-0 lead, both teams were able to seek the warm dressing room for a while.
The second half a completely different picture, Spartan now gets the space to use the long ball which allows them to appear a few times in front of the PSV goal. As PSV started to play much further apart, the Rotterdammers waited for the ball to fall in the right place. In the 36th minute, a ball falls between the PSV defenders and the striker knows how to deal with it. Now it looks like the match will end 1-1 for a long time, as both teams fail to create any more chances. Yet it is Spartan that will draw the longest straw. In the 58th minute, they are able to score from a scrimmage in front of the PSV goal. In the remaining minutes, PSV cannot equalize anymore and the Rotterdammers can start the return trip with a good feeling. With a 1-2 score on the board, PSV O13 can spend the next week recovering from the blow to be ready for the next match.
