The Report
In this first match of the season, both teams started the match energetically, the game undulating up and down. The first chance was in the 9th minute for PSV, but the cross was tapped just wide. Two minutes later Feyenoord had a chance but the ball was shot just wide. A few minutes later the home side took the lead. After PSV lost the ball unnecessarily, a Feyenoord player shot the ball from 25 meters over the PSV goalie, 1-0. Two minutes after the opening goal Feyenoord had another great opportunity but the cross went wide and PSV escaped. Feyenoord were stronger in this phase, but PSV quickly picked up the pace and created some chances. A Seb Loeffen cross just failed to go in and a shot from Iggy Houben was turned away by the Feyenoord goalie. Against the odds, Feyenoord doubled their lead. A Feyenoord free kick was initially cleared by the PSV defense. Feyenoord picked the ball up and on the back line a Feyenoord player was able to run through the PSV defense and tap the ball in, 2-0. PSV did something back immediately though. From a Milan Govaers corner Livano Comenencia shot the ball hard into the net, 2-1. On the stroke of half time Niek Schiks had to stretch to turn away a Feyenoord player. He just managed to prevent a goal and both teams went into the break with a 2-1 score.
PSV started the second half strongly and put Feyenoord under pressure. Feyenoord's defense was well set up and PSV struggled to get through it. PSV created some chances but they were not taken. The home club continued to threaten with a few quick bursts without creating any real chances. After 15 minutes in the second half Feyenoord became stronger and in the 57th minute this resulted in another goal. A cross came to a Feyenoord player who shot high from the edge of the box, 3-1. PSV continued to push but were unable to make a fist of it. A minute before time Feyenoord even made it 4-1 before PSV could do something back in injury time. A Milan Govaers free kick was tapped in by Jesper Uneken, Iggy Houben reacted alertly and tapped in the 4-2. This was also the final score.
