The very last (practice) game of the 2008-2009 season took place in Germany. Braving rain and long navigation destination streets, we watched an attractive duel of which we really should have had more this season.
The battle was evenly matched. Germany had "wie immer" a solid and sound team. Both offensively and defensively the team was strong. PSV did have the upper hand overall, as the result shows, but FC Köln immediately punished slackness.
On the PSV side, Ruud flashily opened the scoring after a few minutes of playing time. Fifteen minutes later Jordan sublimely scored the 0-2. He pulled up from the defense, made an inimitable scissors in midfield and shot hard into the cross. Box office!
Strong play from FC Köln and misunderstandings in our defense allowed the game to even out. And a hard distance shot that skimmed over Pepijn's fingertips made it 3-2. Cody didn't let that bother him and he deftly worked the rebound of his own distance shot in. Soon after, Robin delivered him a perfectly timed cross and our captain only had to tap in the 3-4. Then when Cody's corner was tapped in by an FC Köln defender, you would think you were there, but the game was not yet played. PSV lost some focus and the opponent responded ruthlessly with two goals against; the counter was level again 5-5.
Lars J. profiled himself one more time (this was his farewell match) with a brilliant blast rock hard into the crossbar. And Armando thoughtfully headed in the rebound of Jordan's far free kick (which we already counted). With the final score of 5-7, trainer Twan and leader Bert were extremely satisfied, the players happy and the supporters returned to the Kaffee mit Kuchen of Ruud's birthday father delighted.
PSV's E2 once again confirmed its supremacy and can go into the vacations with peace of mind.
