After a learning week in Tuscany and a weekend with some carnival activities, this afternoon NEC is on the field as our opponent. With only two real defenders, we start this match. But there is a blanket of dullness over the team. Almost everything we saw in Italy, there is nothing of that today. For the bench, which after all has more than a hundred caps together, it is incomprehensible. It is a match that does not deserve a winner but for a long time it looks like there will be one. The only highlight of the first half is a back pass from NEC that the goalkeeper only just manages to tap next to the post. We went to rest with how could it be otherwise 0 - 0.
After the break and the well-known pep talk from the trainers we get back to work. The picture is not really different. We walk too quickly to the back and there is not always confidence radiating from the actions we take. After a little over an hour, such a moment is there again. After hesitating and not intervening, NEC manages to get the ball in the goal. We have to now. The game goes up and down a bit more and becomes more open. But there were no real chances, no big chances. Just before time Martijn made an action on the right and got into the box, but was pushed back by a defender. He then passes the ball to Kenneth, who hits the ball straight away from 25 meters and rushes it into the top corner. And so, indeed, this match has no winner. Everyone can be at peace with this result.
Next week is a busy week with three games in seven days, including both Ajax and Feyenoord. Hopefully a loaded and fighting PSV because the points have to be won at some point.
Next week good luck men.
Success comes when you do things you believe in.
Goodbye.
