    The report

Today the first league game of the new competition was scheduled. In this league eight teams play for the championship. So today was the first match against Vitesse. Before the winter break both teams already played each other and the game ended in a 2-2 draw. Both teams showed from the start that they entered the field with the best intentions. Both PSV and Vitesse were fierce on the ball and looked to attack. The first fifteen minutes of the match were evenly matched. Both teams had several opportunities to open the score in this phase of the match. In the third minute, the visitors already had the first chance. An attack on the right led to a cross that was shot over by a Vitesse player. The first chance for PSV was in the seventh minute. A PSV attack led to a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. Mohamed's free kick was turned away by the Vitesse goalkeeper and in the rebound Cel shot the ball just wide. Neither team was inferior to the other in this phase of the match. Yet it was PSV that took the lead in the 14th minute. Nawaaz won the duel in midfield and played the ball to Ruben. His cross was finally shot in by Mohamed, 1-0. A few minutes later, PSV had another good opportunity to score. A corner by Mohamed was shot hard by Milan. With a fantastic save the Vitesse goalie prevented a goal. PSV had the match in their hands and with good football Vitesse was forced back. This gave PSV some opportunities that were not taken. Martijn came close but his shot went just wide. With a 1-0 lead for PSV both teams went to rest.

Vitesse started the second half brightly and immediately put PSV under pressure. PSV could not continue the good play of the first half and lost the ball too often and unnecessarily. As a result, PSV could not really get into the match. Vitesse took control without creating any real chances. PSV had to go back but tried to outsmart Vitesse from the off. Halfway through the second half Vitesse had the first real chance but the hard shot was cleverly cleared by Kevin. This was the signal for Vitesse to go on the attack. Vitesse was threatening but PSV did not give much away. PSV stood well and each time PSV was able to intercept Vitesse's attack. PSV held on for a long time, but the devil in this match was in the tail. In injury time Vitesse equalized but Vitesse needed the help of PSV. A Vitesse attack was eventually tapped in by a PSV player behind their own goalkeeper, 1-1. Vitesse felt there was more to come and went on the attack right from the kickoff. The ball was put into PSV's goal area where PSV could not get rid of it properly. An incoming Vitesse player then shot the 1-2.

PSV played a fine first half and deservedly went into halftime with a lead. In the second half, Vitesse was the dominant side. A draw would have been an accurate reflection of the match, but in the final seconds the visitors took the win.
