D3 wins in festival of chances
It was already three weeks ago that PSV D3 had to play in the South League. Then a defeat against Roda where an excellent first half unfortunately did not lead to a victory. Today Fortuna visited where last October they won with difficulty in an exciting match 3-1.
For the spectators it was lovely along the line today. With about 15 degrees (others said 18 was promised but that seemed richly exaggerated) and even some sunshine that was not promised, there was a convivial atmosphere along the line.
The match also starts off amiable, a little too amiable from PSV because the first chance is for Fortuna but the crosshairs are not on point there - wide. And that is the common thread of this match for Fortuna anyway: chances come but the Fortunes are restless in front of goal or have their radar set wrong and our goalkeepers Stan and Arne are able to let most balls go past their goal.
At the other end, it is Rafael who through a nice combination through the middle is the first to try his luck, but just wide. Then it is Steven who launches Robin, also wide. A nice flank from Jordan, but just headed away. Steven can shoot after a solo from Cody, too soft.
Fortuna also remains dangerous with their fast strikers. The offside trap does not always close in time but then there is Arne who can intercept the ball in time.
On the other hand, the PSV attack is also too fast for the Fortuna defense on several occasions, and so the game waves back and forth, and one chance follows another. PSV plays with Robin as mid-mid but deep in front. This offensive tactic produces many chances but at the back it is often not easy for our PSV players to stop Fortuna's rising midfielders. Today it is waiting to see who scores the first goal and can take the mental advantage.
And that, fortunately, is PSV. Cody on Robin; the ball is blocked by the goalkeeper but the ball goes up and then with his back to the goal a brilliant overhead kick by Robin. In a beautiful curve the ball flies into the goal. A wonderful feat of Robin showing his athletic ability.
Fortuna immediately in the rebound, a nice chance but wide. At the other end a breakaway from Steven who rushes along the line wonderfully today, a cross and via-via the ball reaches Jordan who manages to make it 2-0 with a 'chip'. It doesn't feel safe yet. Just before halftime Fortuna then passed Arne but it is the diligent and fierce Luc who manages to prevent a goal by stopping the ball before the line.
The second half begins with a Fortuna corner kick which Stan manages to tap in. Back at the other end. Hus once again sprinkles a velvet pass and launches Jordan who is on edge today and heads the ball into the near corner. Just after that another free kick that went high for the goal and there was the strong Armando who headed in the 4-0. A good score considering the chances, but the game is still about who gets the most balls between the posts.
Another corner for Fortuna, the ball cannot be cleared and the Sittard spectators breathe a sigh of relief: a goal after all. A beautiful high shot by Fortuna from the left is too powerful for Stan, and 4-2 is on the scoreboard. The catch-up race has started too late and the referee whistles for the end.
