PSV O14 was clearly the better team against Excelsior Rotterdam last Saturday. But if you don't score, it becomes difficult to finish a match victoriously. Because PSV only scored once and made a mistake at the back there was no more in it than a draw.
PSV O14 started the match well on Saturday. Everything was right, only in the first half no goals were scored by the Eindhoveners and that can break you down considerably later in the match. The chances to score were really there, but when a real goal scorer is missing it is difficult. Alseny Cisse was close to a goal in the 14th minute: Gino Verhulst sent a low cross in front of the goal, only Alseny was just a bit too late to slide the ball in. In the 28th minute, it was again Alseny who missed a great opportunity in a one-on-one with the Excelsior goalkeeper. And so there were some small chances that were not taken. In fact, that was the only thing PSV lacked, because there was no lack of play or commitment.
In the second half, Excelsior dared to play a little further away from their own goal. This made the match a real game. PSV now had to try to score and be wary of the Rotterdammers. Gino was close to a goal, but the ball was pushed over by the Excelsior goalkeeper. Or Rens Boon 's header into the side netting, which could have gone in as well. But PSV also got away well, the ball was cleared off the goal line by Yalen Meulendijks. In the 61st minute the goal finally came, Rodin Oesterholt took a devastating shot that was unstoppable for the Excelsior goalkeeper. Excelsior tried hard to get the equalizer two minutes before the end of the game. PSV fumbled at the back after an Excelsior corner, and there the ball was in one go against the ropes. 1-1. There was more to come today, but unfortunately the ball just wouldn't go in.
Next week a tough away game for the O14. Vitesse have not dropped many points yet, so it could be a difficult afternoon. But lots of training on scoring next week, and maybe the good play will be rewarded.
