The report
An important match was scheduled today against the tricky Vitesse O19 from Arnhem. Coach Ruud van Nistelrooy's boys lost their first game at home against Feyenoord, while Vitesse surprisingly won their first game in Amsterdam against Ajax. So losing would already put PSV against a six-point deficit.
Right from the start, PSV took the initiative. Good intervention by Gregory Kuisch allowed the ball to reach Yorbe Vertessen in the 13th minute. The PSV striker took a hard shot, but was unable to stop the goalkeeper. PSV created a few more opportunities, but shots by Vertessen and Kuisch were saved by the goalie and a free kick by Noni Madueke went just wide of the post. We rested with a score of 0-0, whereas PSV deserved more.
In the second half, PSV continued where it left off. They dominated the match and got some opportunities. A corner kick in the 55th minute by Nigel Thomas ended up with a Vitesse player, who hit the leather all wrong and shot the 0-1 for the visitors. PSV did not slacken after this lead and it was Mees Krekels who intercepted the ball in the 59th minute and played it to Madueke on the edge of the penalty area, who slipped past his opponent at speed and shot the 0-2. After this, Vertessen got another nice opportunity in the 73rd minute, only he was unbalanced by the Vitesse goalkeeper so he could not get much power behind the shot. In the 76th minute, Vertessen finally scored. A foul on him in the penalty area resulted in a penalty, which he shot in and put the final score on the scoreboard. For even the remaining fifteen minutes the defense gave nothing away. A deserved victory for the O19 in Arnhem.
PSV O19's next match is Saturday, Jan. 26, at home against the same Vitesse, only it will be for the cup.
