O19 picks up three points in closing stages

Saturday's match in Alkmaar against AZ O19 was on the program. Because PSV lost the last two games to NAC Breda and NEC (twice 1-1), Ruud van Nistelrooy's team had no chance to prolong the title. On the other hand, AZ was still in the running, but they had to win the O19.

From the start, the home club put the visitor under pressure. This ensured that the Eindhoveners were rarely to be found in the opponent's half. The chances were for AZ O19. That the Alkmaarers did not take the lead was thanks to the good goalkeeper Kyan van Dorp. The keeper saved two 100% chances for AZ in the 7th and 15th minute. In the 23rd minute, PSV got their first good footballing break. A cross from Antonisse landed on Kjolo's head, but the Norwegian headed straight into the goalkeeper's hands. AZ had another great opportunity, but Van Dorp again stood his ground. So both teams went to rest with a 0-0 score.

After halftime, we saw a very different PSV O19. The team played dominantly and, unlike in the first half, kept AZ far from their own goal. A shot by Kjolo in the 68th ended up on the goalkeeper's fists and a number of distance shots from the sixteenmeter did not yield an Eindhoven goal either. In the 80th minute, PSV had a scare. A free kick was well headed in at the first post, but fortunately flew just wide. In the 90th minute Noni Madueke dribbled past a number of opponents, saw the free Mathijs Tielemans on the edge of the penalty area and he did not hesitate: 0-1!

Thus, based on the second half, PSV O19 held a deserved 0-1 lead. And it remained so, despite five minutes of injury time.

Next week, PSV O19 plays the last league match of the season. At their own Herdgang, Ruud van Nistelrooy's team will play at home against Sparta Rotterdam at 14:30.

    Line-up PSV O19:
Van Dorp, Sambo, Zeegers, Kreekels, Vos, Mendonca, Matuta (87/Kuisch), Kjolo (83/Tielemans), Madueke, Antonisse (78/Horvath), Sidibe (60/Thomas).
