PSV started the game strongly and in the third minute PSV already had the opportunity to open the score. However, Jayden's shot was turned into a corner. The corner was well headed in but was cleared off the line by a Feyenoord defender. PSV then continued unabated. Within ten minutes of the strong opening, PSV had two more opportunities to take the lead. Both times the Feyenoord goalie was on his guard and prevented PSV from taking the lead. In the 19th minute Feyenoord took the lead with their first chance of the game. A quick attack was headed in effectively, 0-1. PSV were a little confused after the goal and were unable to create any real danger in the remainder of the first half. Only a free kick taken by Thomas created some danger, but the ball went just over. No other opportunities were created so both teams went to rest with a score of 0-1.
PSV went in search of an equalizer from the start of the second half. Feyenoord were forced into defence but PSV could not really find an opening. Jur came closest to an equalizer midway through the second half, but his shot was turned away by a Feyenoord defender. Feyenoord could not really create any real danger in this phase of the game and limited themselves mainly to defending the lead.
PSV continued to look for the equalizer and took more and more risks as the game went on. Football-wise it became a little less towards the end. PSV kept fighting until the last minute, but the equalizer did not come. Far into injury time Feyenoord even managed to double the score with a long-distance shot from over 20 meters. The match ended in a 0-2 loss for PSV.
PSV failed to capitalize on the chances in this match. As a result, PSV made it difficult for themselves and therefore spent much of the match trailing. The final score was not an accurate reflection of the balance of power on the field.
