One swallow does not make a summer, hard landing after the flight of the last weeks, a few expressions that indicate that we are not there yet this season. Today against ADO on their open sports park in The Hague. In good spirits we go there but the first half is not good. Rarely seen a game in which so few chances were created and yet as many as seven goals fell. Normally December 28 is the day of silly children but we have already celebrated it on April 18. The way the goals fell is almost beyond description. After a fairly quick deficit we come back through Yanick and Sam and it is Ryan who tips the net but then just simple defending is not even possible and ADO takes an easy 3 - 1 lead five minutes before halftime.
After the break it is better. There is fight, passion and the game gets better and after twenty minutes Boris manages to bring the score back to 3-2. We now want to push on, but within five minutes a corner kicked at the second post again makes it 4-2. Naive defending again. We still want to try to improve the score but it doesn't work. Far into injury time ADO got a penalty and the score was 5-2. Unfortunately we could not repair the damage of the first half.
Given the game we played, it was a fair defeat but it was a bit too big. Third place is getting further away but is still achievable but the level will have to return to that of the past few weeks. Let's take a good look at ourselves this week and go to NEC next Saturday.
