PSV teams, by definition, do not have it easy in Tilburg. In this match, too, it was not a foregone conclusion that the match would end the way it started. Willem II got off to a good start, but PSV took control after about five minutes. After fifteen minutes a good attack through Thomas Horsten led to Geraldo Antonio shooting at the post. Just before half time, Nigel Bertrams had to intervene. First he stopped a low shot and a little later he had to stretch to the top corner to punch the ball out.
Willem II did score just before halftime, but the goal was rightly disallowed for offside.
In the second half the match remained flat with few exciting highlights.
