In this first home game in the league, the topper against Feyenoord was scheduled.
From the beginning of the match, both teams looked to attack. Both teams also had some opportunities to score. PSV had two opportunities to score in the early stages via a free kick. The first free kick changed direction and went just wide of the goal. The second free kick created a lot of danger in front of the Feyenoord goal, but in the end the Feyenoord defense was able to prevent a goal against. It remained an open game with both teams looking to attack. Both PSV and Feyenoord dominated part of the first half and had opportunities to score. However, the chances that were created were not taken advantage of so the game went into halftime with the glasses on the scoreboard. A first half that, despite not scoring, was worth watching.
PSV came out of the locker room well and within thirty seconds PSV took the lead. A deep ball from Deveron reached Milan van de Riet. Instead of shooting himself, he played the ball to Martijn, who simply tapped it in, 1-0. However, this lead was paralyzing rather than liberating for PSV. PSV went back and let Feyenoord come. This gave Feyenoord several opportunities. A foul just outside the box earned Feyenoord a free kick, but the post prevented the equalizer. Feyenoord equalized two minutes later. An initial effort was saved by Kevin, but a Feyenoord player reacted alertly and tapped in the equalizer. Feyenoord continued to put PSV under pressure and ten minutes after the equalizer a Feyenoord attack was completed effectively, 1-2. Feyenoord did not let PSV get back into their game and created a few opportunities of their own. In the 55th minute PSV defended badly and from the edge of the penalty area a Feyenoord player fired in the 1-3. PSV tried to do something back and in the last minute PSV had the opportunity to score the tying goal. Dyon's effort was turned into a corner by the Feyenoord goalie and the following corner was headed just wide by Nawaaz to make it 1-3.
It was a game in which both teams were evenly matched, especially in the first half. For much of the second half Feyenoord were on top and deservedly took the points to Rotterdam.
