The report
After two big home victories (7-1 against Almere City and 8-1 against Den Bosch), as well as a magnificent tournament victory at Charlton Athletic last weekend, the O15 faced Vitesse on Thursday afternoon. For PSV the chance to take over 3rd place in the table from Feyenoord. The Eindhoveners have three points less, but also three matches less played. However, with Vitesse, PSV faced a tough opponent. Earlier this season the Arnheimers were beaten 3-0. Will PSV take all three points again?
The first save came courtesy of PSV goalkeeper Jules Janssen, who turned a shot into a corner in the 3rd minute. It was PSV that took the lead after 10 minutes. The Vitesse goalkeeper kicked the ball away completely the wrong way and it landed at the feet of Mohamed Nassoh. He did not think twice and shot the ball impeccably from 23 meters: 0-1. Moments later Mohamed tried again from distance, but this time he was unsuccessful. In the 19th minute, PSV still made it 0-2 when Mohamed took a free kick and placed the ball at the far post on the head of Jesse Giebels, who nodded it in. After Jules made another good save in a one-on-one duel, everyone thought the teams would rest with a 0-2 score. But well into injury time, Vitesse surprisingly went 1-2 up when a free kick was headed in.
After halftime, the level dropped a bit. Vitesse wanted to but couldn't really. PSV felt the fatigue of a heavy tournament last weekend sinking into their legs. PSV got some more opportunities and Vitesse threatened from distance. There was no more scoring, so PSV deservedly won and took third place. Next Saturday the O15 plays again. Then against FC Volendam at their own Herdgang stadium.
