PSV B1 qualified for the quarterfinals of the Youth Cup on Saturday afternoon. It needed penalty kicks to beat first divisionist FC Zwolle. In the regular playing time it became 1-1.
FC Zwolle warned shortly after the first whistle that it had not come to Eindhoven to just surrender. After a quick attack the ball hit the aluminum behind Nigel Bertrams. Although PSV showed the better field play, there were few real chances. That changed shortly before halftime. Anthony van den Hurk sliced well through the defense and the cross came right to his feet. Eye to eye with the goalkeeper, he finished coolly.
After halftime, the game turned. Shortly before the end of the match FC Zwolle scored the equalizer. This meant that penalty kicks had to decide who would go down in the quiver after the game. FC Zwolle had not trained on penalties in the run-up to the game. The second penalty kick went well over the goal. PSV managed to take the first three penalties. When Nigel Bertrams got hold of the fourth Zwolle effort, it could hardly go wrong. Jeroen Stottelaar was the fourth PSV player on the list and shot in a controlled manner, allowing PSV to qualify for the quarterfinals of the cup.
