PSV had the better of the game throughout the match. In the first half, PSV took the lead, but pretty soon PEC Zwolle equalized. Directly after the break, PSV quickly regained the lead, but only at the end of the match did they manage to decide the game definitively. In the end PSV won 5-1. With this victory PSV qualified for the champion's pool.
In the beginning there was an evenly matched match. In the seventh minute, PSV already had a good chance to open the score, but the ball was shot over. After ten minutes, PSV took control and had some good chances. In the 13th minute, the PEC goalie let go of the ball after a Milan Govaers free kick. There was no PSV player nearby to punish this mistake. A few minutes later, the PEC goalie did react alertly to a shot by Ruben van Bommel. PSV was the superior side and it was waiting for the first goal. This goal came in the 26th minute. Ruben van Bommel played the ball to Jaivy Lourens, who cleverly turned away from his opponent and shot into the far corner: 1-0. After this goal, PSV slowed down, giving PEC the immediate opportunity to score. A free kick by the visitors was not well cleared and a PEC player made it 1-1 with a nice lob.
PSV started the second half strongly and managed to take the lead again after two minutes. Iggy Houben outmaneuvered a PEC player and shot the 2-1. PSV kept the pressure on and created some good chances. However, the visitors did not give up and also created some opportunities. In the 57th minute, the visitors had the chance to equalize. After a nice attack a PEC player was free in front of an almost empty goal, but he shot the ball wide. PSV then picked up the thread and a few minutes later decided the match. A corner by Ruben van Bommel was headed in by Iggy Houben: 3-1. PSV had several more chances after that and one minute before time Jesper Uneken made it 4-1 with a nice shot from a Chahid el Allachi cross. From the kickoff, PSV again went on the attack. A Livano Comenencia cross was headed in by Chahid el Allachi: 5-1. PSV thus recorded a deserved but somewhat flattered victory.
