PSV lets win slip against AZ
To at least get away from the bottom spots, three points had to be taken against AZ. This was mentioned in the preliminary discussion and everyone was behind it and wanted to go for it. PSV started the match well. Fofana worked the ball against the bar after only thirty seconds and a header by the outside player was also stopped by the keeper moments later. The intentions were made clear. After the Alkmaar player hit the crossbar, the opening goal fell on Fofana's third chance. After a good combination through the middle with Mathijs, he rounded off nicely and put the 1-0 score on the board.
After halftime we had to push forward, but as time passed the game also became more restless. Around the sixtieth minute AZ got a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. And this was shot into the goal through the hands of our goalkeeper: 1-1. From this moment on we were behind again. The game became restless and sloppy again and we fell back into our old style of waiting in front of our sixteen yards instead of playing the ball forward. Yet we were closest to getting the three points we deserved, but a Mathijs shot hit the bar and a Fofana effort was cleared off the line. After AZ also hit the crossbar, we had to settle for a point. We let the win slip away, but we had to build on this result.
Good luck to the internationals next week and happy weekend!
