Fighting A1 earns point against PSV
16-3-2005 - In a spirited midweek match with many tough duels, the A youth took their second point in a row via a scoreless draw against PSV's peers.
With a tackle by Dennis Loonen on the heels of the agile Roy Beerens, PSV had an excellent chance to take the lead early in the match. The awarded penalty kick was firmly caught by the excellent keeper Kristof van Hout. The rest of the first half took place mainly between the two penalty areas, with remarkably many free kicks around 20-30 meters from goal. For example, Ad Klijn kicked his first free kick first past and a little later just over goalkeeper Ferhat Kaya's goal. At the other end, a free kick by PSV's Aldin Peljto was changed direction by the wall, but was still stopped by Kristof van Hout with a good reflex.
The second half was just five minutes old when PSV captain Robin Faber was shown his second yellow card for a foul on Niels Vorthoren. Willem II failed to take full advantage of the space and had to rely on shots from the second line or the occasional individual action. With three fresh substitutions coach John Lammers tried to get the three points. In one of the few moments in front of goal Niels Vorthoren turned away from his opponent and came face to face with keeper Kaya, who turned the ball into a corner with a fine reflex. With ten minutes left to play, a long, high ball from Casper van Elsacker caused confusion in the Eindhoven defense. Vorthoren headed the ball through to the strong playing Lars Lambooij, who was then pushed to the ground by PSV defender Dirk Marcellis. However, in this almost identical situation as in the first half, referee Goosens allowed the game to continue and thus denied the chance to take the lead. The crowd was left with only one more chance for Bart Biemans, whose low shot from the edge of the 16-yard box was missed by everyone and went just wide of the Eindhoven goal.
