PSV O17 wins season opener in Rotterdam

The league has started well for PSV O17. After a series of friendly matches and a cup game, the Eindhoveners won 1-3 at Feyenoord's peers.

The first ten minutes of the game showed an even contest, neither side really creating anything, until PSV got through in the 12th minute. Iggy Houben crossed and the striker, Jason van Duiven, did not hesitate and took the ball on the slipper in one go: 0-1. Except for a small chance for Feyenoord, the boys from Eindhoven did not really get into trouble. Despite the play on the pitch not being too good, PSV scored again in the 37th minute. After poor defending by the Rotterdammers, left back Koen Jansen managed to get the ball hard and dry into the bottom right corner, so PSV went to rest with a 0-2 lead.

Feyenoord started the second half brighter and it paid off almost immediately. A Feyenoord cross was not optimally defended, resulting in the 1-2 on the scoreboard in minute 50. After that, coach Adil Ramzi's team entered a somewhat messy phase. Football was sloppy and rushed, resulting in a lot of unnecessary ball loss. Yet Feyenoord were also unable to take the game to themselves, thanks to an excellent save from goalkeeper Niek Schiks.

The sun-drenched game, played at a temperature of 31 degrees, seemed to end in a 2-1 victory for PSV, until captain Lars Putters got behind the ball for a free kick. He knew what to do with it: he aimed right up and hit the ball. After eight minutes of injury time, referee Van Beekveld thought it was enough. PSV takes the points back to Eindhoven, but at the same time knows that there is enough room for improvement in terms of field play. They will get another chance to do so next Saturday, at home against sc Heerenveen.
