Efficient PSV O13 remains unbeaten after win in Utrecht
PSV O13 is still without a point loss in the league after two league matches. In the second match of the season they won 0-1 in Utrecht. Although the victory was deserved, it came about with difficulty.
Both teams had good chances to open the score in the first few minutes. The first of these was for PSV. After a cross from Raf van de Riet, Samuel Gomez came face-to-face with the Utrecht goalkeeper. The Utrecht goalkeeper had a good reflex to tap the ball out of the corner. Moments later PSV got away well, when the striker of FC Utrecht was able to head towards goalkeeper Daan van de Brande. The striker did not hit the ball well, however, so Daan could easily stop the ball. PSV had a lot of ball possession in the remainder of the first half, but could not create any chances. FC Utrecht had its defense in good order and could intervene several times when PSV threatened to become dangerous. Thus both teams went to the dressing rooms with a 0-0 score at halftime.
Little changed in the second half. PSV had the ball, gave nothing away at the back, but had difficulty creating chances themselves. Until the 45th minute. After a fast running attack, right through the Utrecht defense, the ball ended up at the feet of Joep Vermeulen. The goalkeeper managed to turn away his attempt, but was then unable to save the rebound from Nicolas Verkooijen: 0-1.
With fifteen minutes left on the clock, FC Utrecht went in search of the equalizer. Via the long ball the home team tried to hurt the Eindhoven defense, but PSV managed to hold on easily. The Eindhoven players were not in trouble anymore and took the three points back to Eindhoven.
Next week Hidde van Boven's team plays a home match against AZ. Like PSV, the Alkmaar team is still without a point, a nice test for PSV.
