  1. Match report

In this very last match of the league, PSV took on the green mat of Unitas, one of the biggest amateur football clubs in Eindhoven. The outward match at the time was only won 6-0. Could coach Twan Scheepers have put his men in position, with the still fresh thoughts of yesterday's difficult 50 minutes of scoring, the fact that the championship is already within reach, but also that we are only four goals away from the magic number?
Nothing could be further from the truth. PSV started the match extremely focused and dogged. Once again, the chances were countless. In the first minute, Jordan shot at the top of the crossbar and Cody matched that a few minutes later as well. Scheepers' team was running like clockwork again, both offensively and defensively. Yet after fifteen minutes of play, the score was still 0-0. Chances abounded, but they were not converted into goals. The Unitas fans, who were present in large numbers, were very active and encouraged the attackers, who came on more and more often. PSV did not let themselves get off the hook. Lars J. converted a pass from Ruud into a hard shot on goal. From the ensuing scrimmage, Cody scored the first goal. Then the bear is loose and a scoring pattern follows that we have experienced before. About every five minutes a goal is scored, in beautiful and formidable fashion. The preliminary work for the second goal came from Cody. With his slalom moves, he pulled three players towards him before passing well-timed to Ruud who was in free and scoring position. Lars J. provided the assist on the third goal, which Cody worked into the nets from a spin. Just before halftime Unitas had another shot opportunity, but because Pepijn ran out correctly, the shot went wide.
After halftime Armando continued to master his curling free kick. The ball went very sharply towards goal, but the goalkeeper boxed it away. It was Robin who took advantage of the rebound and made the counter rise to the miraculous 250!
The 0-5 was also good. Jordan fooled his defender with some scissor moves and a cross to Ruud, who once again positioned himself well and shot in flawlessly.
Page 14 of the famous booklet shows number 6 of this match. Jordan took the ball all the way to the back line, looked well for free fellow players and found Robin who took the ball on the flick. Box office! Even after the 252nd goal was scored, coach Twan's encouragement did not weaken. The boys anticipated in full force. First Cody cashed in on a one-two with Ruud and then Robin took the ball to score 'nicely' tightly into the cross.
As PSV increasingly took control of the game, there was the occasional counter breakout from Unitas. Lars J. and Lars D. did good business and also Pepijn blocked with his foot and while colliding with the opponent. Yet Unitas managed to break the resistance once and save the honor.
Then the end of the match. That needs a separate paragraph. Pepijn was coached by Twan to go forward on Cody's corner. When that was tapped away by Unitas, the coach granted him another chance. But Unitas was ahead of us and countered towards the empty goal. It was Lars J. who saved his team from a second goal. He rushed across the field and skimmed the ball just in front of the goal. A spectacular end to a wonderful football season. Like heroes, the players, coach and coaching staff were applauded off the field. PSV in this final match gave the spectators what they deserve. They showed themselves to be a supreme team, playing great and perhaps presenting the club PSV with a glorious future....
