The Report
From the start of the match, PSV put early pressure on Volendam's defense. This resulted in two chances in the first ten minutes of the match. In the sixth minute Gioele Nicolaas shot from close range against the Volendam goalkeeper and in the eighth minute a free kick from Mohamed Nassoh from the point of the penalty area, went just over the cross. After 10 minutes, Volendam was dangerous for the first time. A cross was touched with the arm by a PSV player, giving the visitors a penalty kick. Kevin Gadellaa saved cleverly, leaving the glasses on the scoreboard. However, this changed in the 14th minute. A deep ball through the heart of the PSV defense put a Volendam striker in front of the PSV goalie. This opportunity was capitalized on, giving the visitors a 0-1 lead. PSV was unable to take the game in a short phase. That changed in the last ten minutes of the first half, as PSV had several chances to equalize despite the mediocre play. A shot was turned away by the Volendam goalkeeper, a header hit the crossbar and a free kick was also shot against the crossbar. Because these chances were not taken, the teams went into halftime with a 0-1 score.
PSV went into the second half with the best of intentions but it was Volendam that threatened twice in the first five minutes of the second half. Both times, however, it yielded nothing for the visitors. In the 41st minute the visitors did double the lead. A corner was shot directly into the goal, 0-2. With this large lead Volendam slumped and made the field of play small. PSV could not find an opening so the game lumbered on towards the end. Once again, however, the devil was in the detail. In the 61st minute, PSV scored the tying goal from a dead ball moment. A free kick from Mohamed Nassoh was not well cleared by the Volendam goalkeeper after which the incoming D'Leanu Arts was able to head the ball behind the Volendam goalkeeper, 1-2. PSV felt there was more to come and went in search of the equalizer. Three minutes after the equalizer came. Nawaaz Landfeld played a deep ball to Milan van de Riet who beat the Volendam goalkeeper with a nice lob, 2-2. PSV smelled victory and continued unabated. This resulted in the lead in the 67th minute. A free kick from Mohamed Nassoh was finally tapped in by Milan van de Riet, 3-2. Volendam then tried to force the equalizer, but PSV held their ground and kept the three points in Eindhoven.
